Josefinas’ Book Club: The Hate U Give
Our first reading recommendation of this month is “The Hate U Give”, by Angie Thomas.

A very current book that addresses relevant issues in the contemporary society, such as racism and police brutality.

The story is very familiar – a teenage black boy, unarmed, is killed by the police when he is stopped by, on his way home. Unfortunately, this could be the headline of any newspaper. “The Hate U Give” is a book that portrays the current American reality when it comes to racial issues, but not exclusively the American reality...

Starr Carter, a 16-year-old girl, helplessly watches her friend die. As she is the only witness to the case, Starr decides not to remain silent and fight for justice, and thousands of American citizens join her, starting a wave of protests for equality and respect.

“The Hate U Give” is a book about racism and abuse of power, about cultural differences, injustices, and protests for dignity. A book that should be read by everyone, regardless of age, race, or gender.
