Josefinas' Book Club: Roar
“Roar”'s colorful cover and short chapters are our first suggestion of November at the Josefinas’ Book Club.

In “Roar”, the characters and their individual perspective are the main highlights. Combined with the imagination of Cecelia Ahern, they result in a reflection on society and the roles that we, as women, assume in our daily lives. In all, the book has 30 chapters that independently portray (with a lot of humor, irony, and imagination) the daily life of contemporary Western women.

Among the protagonists (yes, obviously they’re all female!), there is one who lives on a shelf, one who eats photographs, and one other that disappears. Through these strange characteristics, little by little, fundamental issues are addressed - issues such as equality and justice, and what it means to be a woman today.

In 30 stories, Cecelia Arhen makes a social critique and encourages us to relax, guiltlessly analyzing what we demand from ourselves and the attitudes of which we should let go.

“Roar” celebrates the power of women and is undoubtedly a good starting point for debate. The eccentric stories challenge readers to change points of view and perspectives.
